Tributes are paid to popular Biggleswade businessman

TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular businessman who has died following a long illness.

Norman Bett, who ran the former CT Bett and Son heating engineering and painting and decorating business in Biggleswade died on Monday (November 14) at Lister Hospital in Stevenage aged 81.

Mr Bett traded from the modern day Spectra Carpets shop in Hitchin Street for almost 30 years after inheriting the business from his father Charles.

After taking on the shop Mr Bett, who lived in Broom also ran a DIY business from the site.

He and his wife Joan also previously lived in a flat above the shop.

As well as being a businessman Mr Bett was also active in sporting life and in the community.

He was a member of the Biggleswade Conservative Tennis Club, played cricket in the area and was also a former president of the Rotary Club of Biggleswade.

He is survived by Joan, 82, a resident at Millfield Lodge Care Home in Gamlingay and their two daughters Nicola Lewis and Jane Adams.

Nicola said: “He was a well-known, liked and respected member of the community.”
