A trial of the equipment was completed at the end of January and it is now understood that 50 cameras will be placed into use across the county within the next couple of weeks.

Last month chief constable Colette Paul said that the force is looking to extend the scheme to 300 units “as soon as possible”.

Officers will only be allowed to use the cameras when there is an “evidence gathering opportunity”.
