Amber Hector-Nugent and Sophie Rance of Arlesey have been entered for the Beds Fire and Rescue Young People of the Year (YOPEY) awards.

When the town’s youth club closed the 15-year-olds, who used to be volunteers there, worked tirelessly to reopen it for the sake of the younger children.

The junior section of the youth club closed last March but they managed to get it up and running again in
September.

Amber of Weavers Orchard and Sophie of Rose Cottages got support from local companies and parents, raised money at a fun day and undertook other necessary tasks such as arranging insurance.

They were nominated by Councillor Nick Daniels, chair of Arlesey Town Council.

He said: “Although parents offered the girls support the main work was done by the girls themselves.

“They acted way above their age and in a mature and responsible manner. The youngsters in Arlesey owe them a debt of gratitude.”
