Jack Carlile, 26, is part of a new group named the ‘Unknown Pilots’, based in Beds and Herts, who are releasing their debut track, ‘Right Here’ today (July 25).

The band was due to play their first gig in March, but after the coronavirus put a stop to their plans, they used the lockdown period to fire up their creativity.

Jack, lead singer and pianist, said: “Obviously, we were disappointed, but it was the right decision, given what’s going on, and it’s worked for the better. We’ve managed to focus on recording and opened up a few new doors.

“We’ve been played on Biggles FM and we would love for people to give us a listen. Our friends and family have been so supportive and we’ve put so much into this.

“I hope we are given the chance to show people what we’re all about.”

The members’ inspirations range from indie rock band Catfish and the Bottlemen to pop rock band The 1975 and artists from the 70s and 80s.

On the drums is Dan Bagoly, 33, while Miles Burgess, 34, plays lead guitar and sings backing vocals, with Matt George, 21, playing bass. It’s also Matt’s birthday today, meaning a double celebration!

Jack, who joined the band in November and completed the line-up, said: “Right Here has a synth alt-rock kind of sound.

“It’s about enjoying the here and now. Sometimes it’s easy to look to the future and we forget to enjoy the present.”

However, the future also holds exciting prospects for Unknown Pilots, as they will soon be releasing an EP.

Describing their sound, the band said: “With synthesizers plucked from a lucid dream, bass lines pulsating through your veins, drum beats fuelling the shapes you want to throw, to guitar riffs derived from that tiny little piece of your brain that you always struggle to access.

“Unknown Pilots bring an elaborate extension to those voice notes recorded at 2am.

“Only time will tell if we become Known Pilots... and that would be impressive seeing as none of us have 1,500 hours of flight time!”

‘Right Here’ will be on all major music platforms, including Spotify, Amazon and Apple Music.
