In 2016, RAF Henlow was identified for disposal. On current plans, RAF Henlow is targeted for vacation by 2023 and phasing of this has already commenced.

Homes England, the Government’s national housing agency, and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, the Ministry of Defence’s estate expert, are working in partnership to shape redevelopment proposals for the future use of RAF Henlow.

Kate McBride, Head of Planning and Enabling at Homes England said: “We want to work with the local community to make sure that the plans for Henlow are developed with the local communities.

“We hope that as many people as possible will be able to attend one of our online events.”

The proposals for the site include the building of new homes, employment opportunities and community facilities. RAF Henlow is one of six sites being progressed through the partnership between Homes England and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to develop surplus Ministry of Defence land across the country.

Catherine Davis, Defence Infrastructure Organisation head of estates, said: “We look forward to hearing ideas from the local community about how the site should be developed. It is important that the development is right for the community so please do share your views with us.”

Homes England and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation say work is at an early stage and that residents and other stakeholders are urged to share their thoughts as their feedback will help to shape the proposals. These engagement events in October and November will be the first in a series of events that will be held as the proposals for the site progress ahead of a planning application being submitted.
