Investigation into Biggleswade arson which led fire service to issue safety warning to public

Police are investigating a fire which involved two outhouse buildings in Biggleswade this morning (Wednesday).

Officers were called by Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue to reports of a building fire at 7:37am, in Furzenhall Road, Biggleswade.

Two crews attended the fire, using six breathing apparatus wearers extinguished the fire with a hose reel and jet. The blaze generated a lot of smoke, prompting nearby residents to be advised to keep doors and windows shut and the public to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue said: "Reports of a person walking away from the buildings was logged. The fire was therefore deemed to have been deliberate.

"If any member of the public has any information regarding this incident, we would encourage them to report this to Bedfordshire Police."
