Organisers of the Potton Show are thrilled to announce that the much-loved community event will be taking place this year.

The historic, family fun day had to be cancelled last year due to Covid-19, so the team and all their entertainers are delighted to be welcoming visitors back on September 11.

During the afternoon, there will be a Fun Dog Show, barbecue, raptor display, morris dance performance and other activities, as well as an auction.

Sadly, there will be no barn dance in the marquee this year, owing to Covid-19, but the craft fair will be held on September 12.

Jan May, show chairman, said: "Although the layout and procedures may have to be changed to allow for Covid-related restrictions, the committee have decided to go ahead with the show this year - it seems that our 'regulars' are very happy to have the show to look forward to.

"I have had several calls and emails since we ran our plant stall last weekend, just to check the date and details.

"We know that competitors often spend many weeks and months preparing for the show, and like as much advance warning as possible; there really are some very talented people around!"

She added: "It is a bit of history and tradition that we need to hang onto, and it seems that Potton residents both young and old do love that aspect."

Schedules will be available later in June.

The Saturday show will close at 5.30pm, following the auction, while the craft fair will take place in the marquee on the Sunday from 12pm - 5pm.

Jan said: "We also believe that because everyone has had such a long time at home, that there will be a lot of new gardeners, artists, crafters, cooks, photographers and more, who have honed their skills during successive lockdowns! As long as restrictions are relaxed, everyone seems very keen to be able to attend such an event.

"We were sad to hear that the Sandy show will no longer run owing to there being no suitable venue for them, and that Shefford have also decided to cancel again this year, but we sincerely hope that we can have as 'normal' an event as possible."

The format of show weekend is that entries must be displayed before 9.45am on show morning (September 11) when the judging then takes place. From 2pm visitors can enter the marquee to view the exhibits.

There is a dog show and many other activities on the field until 4pm when prizes are awarded and at 4.30pm there will be an auction of donated exhibits.

Jan concluded: "The show has been running for almost 50 years; it was started in 1973 and we really feel that it's part of the fabric of the lovely community that makes Potton such a special place!

"This truly is a traditional flower and vegetable show - always held in a marquee which adds to the atmosphere. Please show your support to the local show, lookout for the show schedules for details of classes and how to enter."

The Potton Show thank everyone that came along to support the Plant Stall held recently.
