Performers are such good sports!

Two volunteers have become friends while performing in the opening ceremony for the Paralympics.

Juliette Albone and Tanya Hill, who both live in Biggleswade, were among more than 3,000 volunteers who took part in the spectacular ceremony on Wednesday (August 29).

Tanya and Juliette were among the performers who made up the swirling sea towards the end of the show at the Olympic Stadium.

The pair became friends when they met at the auditions and found out that they live in the same town.

Juliette, a research manager at market research company Ipsos MORI, said: “It was pure chance that we happened to get chatting at the auditions and a real coincidence that we live so close to each other.

“We continued to meet at the various rehearsals and on Wednesday night we were actually performing quite close to each other on stage.”

The two were thrilled to take part in the show and for Juliette it is one of the best experiences she has ever had.

She added: “It was amazing and we were both very excited.

“You don’t realise until you walk out into the stadium and see the spectators quite how spectacular it all is.”

The pair had been working hard on the rehearsals and were glad that the weather remained calm on the night.

Juliette, of Dells Lane, said: “We were worried that we would have a lot of rain but thankfully it stayed dry for the most part.

“We did still get a bit wet though as we had to lie down at one point and there was still rainwater from earlier in the day on the stage!”

Tanya and Juliette also enjoyed performing in their costumes.

Juliette added: “We wore outfits which included large blue skirts and masks which were fantastic to wear and look at.

“We had to be quite careful as the choreography was precise.

“The only problem we had was that the skirts became quite heavy from the rainwater but I think we did ok all the same!”
