Pedestrians need a crossing to stay safe on a Sandy road, according to one Central Beds councillor.

On Saturday (May 3) Councillor Nigel Aldis will be collecting signatures on a petition to raise awareness of the need for a pedestrian crossing at the end of Sunderland Road.

He will be in the area from 10 am to noon and he hopes that other concerned residents will join him in the campaign.

Mr Aldis said: “This a very busy route for pedestrian traffic but the road is also heavily used by vehicles coming off the roundabout at speed and causing uncertainty for people crossing the road.

“A resident raised the issue with me at one of my recent advice surgeries and I am very happy to give it my support.”

If it gets support from Central Bedfordshire Council it could be included in the next version of the Local Area Transport Plan. Although this would not mean an immediate change it would highlight the need for the future.
