The Mitsubishi fled towards Sandy as back-up officers were called in and rushed to catch up with the vehicle and bring it to a halt.

It went through the playing field at Sunderland Road Recreation Ground, causing further damage, before stopping in Wesley Road.

Three men jumped out of the car and tried to flee the scene but were caught by pursuing police officers and arrested.

The men, aged 17, 20 and 21 years old, have now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
