Police’s vision to stop rural crime increase

Beds Police, accompanied by Central Beds councillor Adam Zerny, visited Sutton and Dunton as part of Operation Vision last week.

A mobile police station was set-up in the car park of the March Hare Public House, Dunton and officers knocked on doors and spoke to residents about Neighbourhood Watch and Speed Watch.

The event was arranged in conjunction with Councillor Zerny, who was concerned about a rise in crime in the villages.

He said “I am pleased the police are taking it seriously and am glad to see them out in such numbers in the village today.

“Sutton residents are rightly concerned about the rise in crime locally.

“I’d be keen to see further events to ensure those residents who were at work today get the opportunity to speak to Beds Police about further steps”

A police spokesman said: “Sutton and Dunton both experienced an increase in burglaries in the last two weeks with rear doors and windows being particularly vulnerable.

“It is vitally important that rear gardens are as secure as possible, particularly garden gates. We would encourage residents to ensure their garden sheds/garages are secure.”
