Biggleswade Charter Market reopens today

Biggleswade Charter Market, which has stood in the Town since 1227, is restarting today following the government’s announcement that outdoor markets can reopen from June 1 2020, as long as they are COVID-19 secure.

Throughout lockdown, the market has had a couple of stalwart traders who were in the ‘essential’ list of exemptions under government guidance.

A lot of work has been done to ensure that the Charter Market meets all the government requirements, culminating in the news that it will be opening today.

A Biggleswade Town Council spokesman, said: “With reduced hours of 9am – 3pm, along with a different look to the market, we have introduced social distancing measures, as well as hand sanitisers at each of the entrances to the market.

There will be a road closure at Market Place from 6am - 6pm every Saturday.

The spokesman added: “We are reintroducing parking enforcement within our BTC operated car parks from Saturday, August 1. Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays will remain free, with the enforceable hours being Monday to Friday, 8am until 6pm.”
