Drivers warned of road closures across Central Bedfordshire
Drivers are being warned of road closures planned across Central Bedfordshire – while a new speed restriction is proposed for the A1.
In Campton, Greenway outside number 59 is due to close from November 9 to 18 to allow Anglian Water to install new water mains. The diversion will run via Campton Road, High Street, Shefford Road, the A507 and Greenway.

Millow in Dunton, outside number 2, is expected to close from November 9 to 11 for stoptap replacement works. The alternative route will use Dunton Lane, Saxon Drive, the A6001, the A1, the C184 and Millow.
In Wrestlingworth, High Street outside number 49 is scheduled to close from November 11 to 13 for a new water connection. The diversion will run via Hatley Road, Sutton Road, the B1041 and High Street.
Drivers in Shefford will also face a temporary closure on Mayfields, between Maycroft and Sekaran Close, on November 9 and 10, between 9am and 5pm.
Newton Way in Sandy is due to close on November 13 between 8am and 6pm to allow carriageway patching works to be carried out.
In Dunton, Cambridge Road, between Lee Close and Kings Pond Close, is scheduled to close from October 26 to 30 for resurfacing and road-lining works. The closure will operate around the clock, with a diversion via High Street, Eyeworth Road, the B1042, Sutton Road and Biggleswade Road.
In Clifton, Church Street outside number 8 is due to close from October 26 to 28 for a new water connection. The alternative route will be via Broad Street and Church Street.
Meanwhile, Potton Road in Everton, outside number 25, is scheduled to close from October 26 to November 1 for new water main installation. The diversion will use Everton Road, Swaden, the B1042, the B1040, Myers Road and Potton Road.
Motorists using the A1 will also need to be aware of a proposed temporary speed restriction linked to the major Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet road improvement scheme.
National Highways intends to vary an existing traffic order to introduce a 30mph speed limit on the northbound and southbound A1 between Sandy Roundabout and Tempsford Junction overbridge.
The restriction is proposed to come into force on November 15, 2026, and will apply 24 hours a day where required for construction and associated works. Traffic signs will indicate when and where the restriction applies.
The wider road improvement project includes construction of a three-tier junction and a new dual carriageway between the A1 Black Cat Roundabout and Caxton Gibbet Roundabout.
Public notices also reveal that Curry House Sandy, 144 London Road, has applied to Central Bedfordshire Council for a premises licence to permit the sale of alcohol for consumption both on and off the premises, as well as indoor recorded music.
