Tricia Turner – Conservative

Hide Ad
Hide Ad

IT has been a privilege for me to lead Central Bedfordshire Council during the first two formative years of its life.

From day one we promised to deliver better value for money, manage growth and increased demands in ‘needs-led’ services, improve children’s attainment and reduce the cost of our services. All of this we are achieving.

The national financial challenges have meant that local government has been asked to make far more savings, and it has encouraged us to explore opportunities.

With good planning and management we have achieved an £180million budget which includes almost £20million more permanent savings next year alone, while not increasing council tax. Some of our successes include the retention of school crossing patrols, retention of the concessionary bus pass use before 9.30am, the continuation of Sandy Leisure Centre and retention of a library homework club.
