Potton clubhouse is match fit

POTTON Bowls Club members will play their first match in front of a new clubhouse this weekend.

The new building, which overlooks the green on Sandy Road, Potton, will host the President versus Chairman team game and herald the start of the new season.

Buildings manager Phil Judd says it has been a long battle to put the building in place, but thanks to the round-the-clock efforts of members it is ready for action.

He said: “We couldn’t have achieved this without the invaluable support and financial contributions provided by firms like Lafarge and Levitt Partnership, and the individual efforts of others, particularly Geoff Tomlinson and Colin Cooper.”

The opening match takes place at 2.30pm on Sunday (May 1). A grand opening of the clubhouse will take place on Sunday, May 8.

Doreen Mitchell, the widow of the late Potton Bowls Club president Leonard Mitchell, will officially open the clubhouse in front of a group of members, non-members and well-wishers.

Potton Bowls Club was founded in 1917 and its green has been described as one of the best in the country.
