Project seems off-track

A RAILWAY enthusiast wants to breathe new life into a campaign to bring an historic steam engine back to life again.

Cliff King, of Spencer Close, Potton has donated £150 to the project to bring the Shannon, which once served the town, back to the railways.

But some £14,500 will be needed to fully renovate the George England steam locomotive and just £6,500 has been raised so far.

The target was set by the Didcot Railway Museum in Oxfordshire where the Shannon is being kept, and the original deadline of September now seems unlikely to be met.

Cliff said: “There was an article in the latest issue of Steam Railway magazine and it turns out that around 80 different parties have donated money to the project, including the money that I collected locally.”
