£300k plans for Shefford Hall improvements

The association has applied for planning permission to complete Phase One of the refurbishment which would focus on developing new changing rooms and providing a new entrance to the facility.

The current facilities were built in the 1960s and are becoming more and more dilapidated.

Julia Holmes, STMA Committee Town Council Representative, said: “In order to attract people back again we have got to offer them something better than this.

“There will be brand new changing rooms to Sport England standard and they will come to the edge of the green with an officials room and brand new toilets.”

Funding for the work is provided by Developer Contributions in relation to Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act (1990).

However, the committee has also managed to raise £45,000, which kickstarted the plans for the renovation.

The current facilities outside consist of a cricket pitch, a football pitch and play areas for children.

Inside there is a hall with a kitchen attached, a snooker room and bar areas for members to enjoy.

Linda Ford, Fund Raising Co-ordinator and Secretary, said: “We are trying to entice more families to come up here.

“With the new facilities we are looking to improve the standard of cricket and also increase the amount of touch rugby currently played at the venue.”
