Manager at The Crown, Kevin Wallman, and head chef Hendrik Dutson, were delighted that their ‘triple cooked chips’ passed the customer taste test to clinch the title.

Kevin, who runs the family business with his father, said: “We’re thrilled. It’s the first time we’ve got involved with Chip Week, so to have customers rally and vote us as serving the best chips in the country is incredible.”

And Hendrik explained the secret to the chips’ success.

He said: “Our chips are freshly prepared on the premises. We source local Bedfordshire potatoes and the team work hard to ensure quality and consistency at every stage.

“The chips are cut and steamed before being twice fried to deliver a crisp, crunchy shell and fluffy inside. The result is a chip that our customers love and keep coming back for.”
