Pupils dive into a watery future with pool

SWIMMING will be a key element of pupils’ education thanks to a new swimming pool.

Everton Lower School previously had a smaller pool but now a second hand larger and heated version has been purchased.

It was officially opened by Alistair Burt, MP for North East Bedfordshire, on Friday (July 8).

Headteacher, Julie Ashwell, said: “It is such a wonderful resource to have within the school and now it is fully heated the children are able to enjoy it for a much longer time. It can be heated for up to five months a year.

“The bigger pool gives the children the opportunity to be more challenged. Swimming is an essential life-skill and having the opportunity to swim daily has shown benefits to all.”

Every child in the school will swim on a daily basis.

Schools in Everton Lower’s cluster group will also be able to use the pool. This will benefit youngsters in Burgoyne Middle School and Sutton, Wrestlingworth and Potton lower schools as well as those from the Sure Start Children’s Centre.

Julie added: “By involving the wider community we are maximising its usage and building stronger links with our colleagues.”
