The event aims to raise money for charity through children and adults giving up their beds for the evening and sleeping on the street.

The community project is led by Andrew Catherall of Stratton Upper School and Connor Stratford from Sandy Upper School and there is an emphasis on young people taking part.

Andrew said: “We are looking for as many people as possible to participate.

“It is a golden opportunity to help those who are most in need and don’t have the luxuries most of us enjoy this Christmas.”

The event will take place at the bus station in Biggleswade and in the market square in Sandy where there will be cover provided from the elements.

Police have been notified and have agreeded to conduct regular patrols on the evening of the sleep out.

Insurance has been obtained for all participants, though if you are under 18 you will need written parental permission in order to take part.

Those with a disability will need to provide a note from their doctor, again for insurance purposes.

Money will be raised through sponsorship and will go to the Kings Arms homeless project which has been supporting the homeless since 1989.

The money raised will be split with half also going to a medical relief charity for Ebola, the disease which has been prominent in the news as of late.

Sponsorship forms can be collected from H & H Electronics in Biggleswade and Inskipp & Daly solicitors in Sandy and residents can also drop off sweets and chocolate in donation to the homeless at these venues.

There will also be a Virgin Giving page setup at the beginning of next week for people to donate to the cause.

Food will be supplied though participants require their own sleeping bag and warm clothes while girls are required to wear trousers.

There will be toilet facilities provided in both areas and cardboard has been obtained to make the evening’s sleep a little more comfortable for those taking part but alcohol is banned from the event.
