Children and staff at Sutton Lower School had one foot in the past on Friday (June 13).

The youngsters have been learning about the First World War in this centenary year. They dressed up in period costumes to make it easier for them to put themselves in the place of someone who lived through the war.

Throughout the day the children focused on a number of key values that the school linked to the event; remembrance, forgiveness and humility.

Mrs Hansard said that the fact that the school was around during both world wars really added to a sense of occasion.

The event came a week before tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) school fete which also has a First World War theme with assault courses, mini farms and old fashioned tea rooms.
