Percy disappeared in Potton 11 and a half years ago and although owner David Allison searched far and wide, he was never discovered.

But now, years later, the black cat has been found by Ruth Hart, who David works with!

Support worker Ruth, who lives in Cockayne Hatley, recently inherited Percy after a neighbour passed away.

The neighbour had found the moggy as a stray and remarkably he worked out that he answered to the name of Percy, so the cat has kept his original name all this time.

Ruth took Percy in so that he could stay in the village, which he knows.

His identity was discovered when Ruth took him to the vet, and they found that he was microchipped.

She said: “I’ve worked with David and it was very odd the way it all came together.

“I was texting him about Percy and it turned out I was texting him about his cat that had gone missing! He was gobsmacked.

“It was a really weird sequence of events but it shows that microchipping your animal is worthwhile.”

David, who now has two other cats, decided that as Percy had been living in the village for most of his life and is being well looked after he would leave him with Ruth.

David said: “When I went to see him I thought he probably wouldn’t remember me. Ruch said he was very shy, but I called his name and he came running up to me. I picked him up and he started purring and I burst into tears!”

He added: “It’s given me a lot of peace to know he’s been well looked after all these years.”
