They asked for more long term parking spaces and for the traffic flow in Hitchin Street to be reversed. Central Beds Council is waiting until a parking strategy is completed before it makes a decision.

Builders cut the turf for the new housing estate at Millbrook Meadows in Gamlingay. Once completed there will be 85 two to four bedroom houses. The estate is being constructed by Tempsford based company, Kier Homes.

A new street in Biggleswade was named after the late town councillor, Peter Vickers. Vickers Close is off Fairfield Road on the Fairfield Estate. Mayor Hazel Ramsay said “it’s an appropriate way to remember him.”

It was a sign of the times in the employment market when Tesco announced that nearly 3,000 people had applied for just 182 jobs at the new supermarket in Sandy.

Biggleswade Sandy Lions launched its Message In A Wallet scheme, which is supported by the Biggleswade Chronicle. The credit card sized foldout details medical conditions and can be kept in your wallet in case of emergency. The cards are available for free around the area, including in the libraries and surgeries, plus in the Chronicle office.

Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver paid a visit to Chronicle Country at the end of July and sampled the famous Bedfordshire Clanger.

Jamie was filming part of a new Channel 4 series, which will look at local and regional delicacies across the UK. He raced co-star Jimmy Doherty around a field in a tractor whilst eating Bedfordshire Clangers.
