Rotarians make the biggest splash for cash!

A TROPHY has been handed over to the team that made the biggest splash for cash at this year’s Rotary Club of Biggleswade’s Swimathon event.

The Philip Dean Trophy, which was presented to the Swimathon in memory of its former chairman, is awarded to the team that raises the most cash during the event.

And this year it was awarded to none other than the captain of the Rotary Club of Biggleswade’s team – Frank Smith.

Rotarian Neil Burrow, who helps organise the event, said: “Not only does Frank organise the event, he also gets sponsorship for his team and swims on the day. So he’s a very worthy winner of the trophy, to be presented this year by Philip Dean’s mother.”

Frank added: “The trophy has only been running for three years and the last two it has been won by the Sandy branch of the Leprosy Mission, so we were quite pleased to beat them.”

The Rotary team raised £644, while the event raised around £7,000 overall.

The event, which is sponsored by the Biggleswade Chronicle, sees teams completing sponsored laps at Saxon Pool and Leisure Centre.

Half of the money each team raises goes to their chosen charity, whilst the rest goes to Rotary’s good causes.

Next year’s event is already set to take place on February 18 and 19.
