Sailing away from illness after cancer

A YOUNG cancer sufferer took part in the sailing trip of a lifetime.

Danielle Leefarr, who lives with her family in Potton’s Downside Gardens, was invited to sail with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

She spent four nights on a yacht sailing around the Solent waters of the Isle of Wight. She joined 23 other children who are all in recovery from cancer. Between them they sailed four yachts.

Danielle, 12, was diagnosed with a brain tumour four years ago and spent years going in and out of hospital. She completed her treatment at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.

She said: “I’ve only ever been sailing on big boats before. It was really good fun. I couldn’t pick a best bit because I enjoyed all of it but steering the boat and the water fight were really funny.

“I would encourage anyone to go on the trip because you just have such a great time.”
