The ‘extra care’ scheme in Engayne Avenue, which is home to 30 residents, now offers visitors a chance to have a light lunch or a snack in its ‘Comfort Café’ on Wednesday and Thursday mornings every week.

The scheme, run by Aragon Housing Association, has undergone a £600,000 revamp, in which the sun lounge, conservatory, entrance foyer where the cafe is, and all the corridors have undergone a major facelift.

Mayor Will Jackson planted a young quince tree in the scheme’s front garden to mark the occasion.

Aileen Evans, Aragon’s Managing Director, said: “The whole scheme looks so much lighter and brighter and will be a much more up to date and welcoming place for residents and their families and visitors to go.

“This is part of our ongoing programme of major improvement works in all our schemes and of course more widely in our 6,500 homes.”

Aragon held a barbecue and afternoon tea for around 100 residents, families and local people to mark the completion of the work.

This was to say thank you to those who have been patient throughout the six month refurbishment.

With its large garden Quince Court is an ‘extra care scheme’ which provides older residents with independent flats.

There are support staff on site at all hours seven days a week and a programme of social activities for the residents as well.

The sun lounge on the first floor has also been improved and is now a bright modern space with wood effect flooring and comfortable seating.
