The area was opened at Derwent Lower School in Henlow Camp.

More than 60 per cent of the school’s pupils come from service families so the project was funded by the Armed Forces Community Covenant grant scheme.

It was opened by Councillor Mark Versallion, executive member for children’s services at Central Beds Council, and Wing Commander Pete Marshall, station commander at RAF Henlow.

Pupils sang the school song for the guests.

Councillor Versallion said: “The partnership’s and the school’s success in securing this money from national government means we have a great facility at this school for years to come.”
