School standards in Central Bedfordshire

Lower schools in this area are in the top 10 per cent nationwide.

On Tuesday (November 27) education watchdog, Ofsted, published a report which revealed that 83 per cent of lower schools and primary schools in Central Bedfordshire are rated as good or outstanding.

Councillor Mark Versallion, executive member for children’s services, said: “This is great news and reflects the outstanding hard work and determination of local schools, teachers, parents and pupils.

“And it is fantastic that the overwhelming majority of children in Central Bedfordshire will be starting out on their educational journey at a good or outstanding school.”

But secondary schools in Central Bedfordshire did not fare as well. Only 55 per cent have been judged as either good or outstanding with the remaining 45 per cent being satisfactory.

Overall for the East of England 62 per cent of secondary schools are good or outstanding. The figure is 60 per cent in Bedford Borough with 35 per cent being satisfactory and five per cent being inadequate.

In Cambridgeshire 67 per cent of secondary schools are good or outstanding, 29 per cent are satisfactory and 4 per cent are inadequate. And in Hertfordshire the figures are 67 per cent, 32 per cent and one per cent respectively.
