The star was local singer, Brian J, who dressed in RAF uniform, and the hall was decorated with flags and bunting.

Many dressed in 1940s costume and 200 cheese and ham sandwiches were provided by the Jade Garden Restaurant and served by manager, Peter Chu, dressed in full army attire. A forties costume competition was won by the ‘lady in red’ who donated the prize, a VE Day cake made by a local resident, to the children who had their own 1940s competition. A Battle of Waterloo themed event is being held on June 19, in Stanford.
