Schoolchildren discover lessons for wartime evacuees

PUPILS had the chance to experience life as evacuees.

The children in Year 3 and Year 4 at Laburnum Lower School in Sandy dressed up for the occasion and took part in lessons as they would have done during the Second World War.

Headteacher Janice Pibworth said: “The hall was kitted out as a schoolroom and the children dressed up in very bland outfits, with their gas mask boxes.

“They had an Anderson shelter that they went under the table for and in the afternoon the hall was set up as different shops with the old money.

“It was very interesting and the children really enjoyed it. It set them off on their Second World War Topics.”

The day was run by History Off The Page.
