School’s new unit is foundation for future

Teachers, children and parents at Moggerhanger Lower School cut the ribbon to the new two-room modular unit on Thursday last week.

Headteacher Sarah Evans welcomed a new era for the school, which can now take youngsters from the age of three onwards.

She said: “The new building replaces the previous reception classroom and has allowed us to open a brand new foundation unit.

“We did consider the possibility of opening a pre-school here but we have instead been able to integrate the new unit into the school itself.

“This means that children can join from pre-school age and carry on with the same peer group until they leave for middle school.”

The unit has two classrooms and also a new outdoor area for pupils to enjoy.

Mrs Evans added: “We have a free flow between the rooms and outdoor area, and as well as using the unit for lessons the after-school club will also be based there.”

Work on the extension started back in May and has been a team effort involving many parties connected with the school.

Mrs Evans said: “Parents have kindly made donations and have helped out with the painting and decoration work.

“Boyton-BRJ System Buildings in Sandy also took care of the building work, while Julia Hart, a landscape gardener from the area helped with the fencing.

“I would also like to thank Nicky Straccia, Helen Ingram, Janice Murphy, Trena Kitchener and the Moggy Minors staff for their hard work and dedication.”
