Service for councillor
Cllr Lewis Birt, recognised for his penchant for wearing caps, died on February 1 at the age of 83.
He was the Central Bedfordshire Council representative for Shefford for many years. and a member of Shefford Town Council.
He served on the CBC General Purposes committee.

Hide AdCllr Birt was a prominent figure in the local community and a .
Fellow Shefford councillor Anthony Brown said: “Lewis was a Mid Beds district councillor for Shefford, a Shefford Town Councillor and then a unitary councillor for CBC.
“He was also well known in the local area and well respected for his work as chairman of the community hall in Ampthill Road and also as chairman of the Shefford Christmas Lights Committee both of which he gave many hours of his time ensuring that they functioned for the town’s benefit.”
He was also actively involved in the Shefford Sports Trust and was a former chairman of the Shefford Chamber of Trade.

Hide AdMarried to Fran, Mr Birt, who lived in Clifton Road in the town, is survived by four children, Steve, Nick, Lesley and Carl, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Thanksgiving Service will be held at The Parish Church of St Michael & All Angels, Shefford today Thursday 2nd March at 3.30pm.
