Shefford cyclists complete charity ride

A TEAM of dedicated riders cycled the equivalent distance from London to Brighton and back to raise money for the expansion of a church.

Shefford Baptist Church deacon Dave Tofts led the group of 12 adults and three teenagers as they cycled 106 miles on two exercise bikes at the Shefford Gala on Sunday (June 12).

Members of the team took it in turns to cycle for 30 minutes at a time on the bikes, which were set up in the gala field at Robert Bloomfield Middle School.

The cycling took place between 10am and 5pm, and seven-and-a-half miles was the average distance covered.

Dave said: “I would like to thank everyone who took part – the cyclists were very enthusiastic.”

Sponsorship money is still being counted, and anyone who would like to make a donation can contact the Reverend Steve Summerfield at Shefford Baptist Church on 01462 812564.

The next fundraising event being held in aid of the church extension will be an open air cream tea in a church member’s garden on Saturday, July 30. For more information contact Mr Summerfield on the number above.
