Shefford schemes seeks volunteers

A CIVILIAN patrol scheme in Shefford is seeking new recruits.

Street Watch – which sees members of the community patrolling the area to keep a check on crime and antisocial behaviour – has been running in the town for 15 months.

Since it was established members of Street Watch have reported crimes like fly-tipping, graffiti and criminal damage.

Volunteers from Street Watch have also joined forces with Bedfordshire Police to help motorists secure their vehicles’ number plates with tamper-proof screws.

The group has also carried out litter picks and helped to patrol major events in the town.

The Speedwatch initiative – which sees volunteers monitoring speeding cars – is also looking for more help.

Members of Speedwatch check on vehicles passing through the town and the details of speeding drivers are passed on to the police.

To volunteer for either group contact 01234 842567.
