Show classics in chorus’ concert

HARMONIOUS voices are set to raise the roof at a forthcoming church concert.

Phoenix Chorus, an all female choir which is based in Potton, will be performing at the Hitchin Festival 2011.

The Phoenix members will not only sing but also dance their way through a wide variety of songs during the course of the evening.

Audiences can expect an entertaining evening of top class harmony singing including toe-tapping up tempo numbers, emotional ballads and memorable show classics.

These will include two pieces from Les Miserables; On My Own and Do You Hear The People Sing, All That Jazz from Chicago, pop favourites Fame and We Are Family and Etta James’ At Last.

The choir’s director, Lynda Wood, said that the chorus members are excited about performing in Hitchin.

She said: “It’s fantastic to be part of the Hitchin Festival. This popular event is right on our doorstep and we’re really looking forward to showing Hitchin what fun Phoenix has when performing.”

The 70 women will be performing at St Mary’s Church in Hitchin on Thursday, July 7. The concert starts at 8pm.

The chorus has also just recorded a CD, which will soon be available. It features pieces performed over the last two years.

Phoenix president, Helen Foley, said: “We’re so excited to have recorded a CD which really shows how far the chorus has come in the last few years.
