Former Stratton Upper School student Taelre Presland was one of three youths to appear on The Intern, which is presented by Dragons’ Den panellist, Hilary Devey.

The programme aims to show that young people also have management skills. Taelre was competing to secure a high level job at one of Britain’s top hotel chains, the Red Carnation Collection.

He said: “I went to a festival in Hackney and somebody approached me and asked if I would like to be part of it.

“I went for one of the jobs at The Milestone Hotel in Tottenham Court Road, London.”

Taelre, of Winston Crescent in Biggleswade, had to go through a rigorous interview process to get on the show.

He was put tricky scenarios to test his management skills. Taelre, 18, said: “I had to park someone’s Aston DB9 which was worth about £38,000. When I was asked to get it for the customer it was being lifted! The camera shows my shocked face.”
