Take tea with Anne in fundraising tribute to her mum

A woman from Sandy is hosting a tea party to raise funds into cancer research, in tribute to her mum who lost her battle with the disease aged 52.

Anne Elliott-Flockhart is holding the party for the Eve Appeal which funds groundbreaking research into gynaecological cancers.

The tea party, which is being held on Saturday, March 12 from 10am until noon at Sandy Upper School, will help raise funds for ovarian cancer research and boost awareness of the disease.

In 2003 Anne’s mum Claire was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

She underwent several courses of chemotherapy over the years but finally lost her battle in 2007 aged just 52.

Before her mum developed the disease Anne says she had never heard of ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death in women and accounts for more UK deaths than all of the other gynaecological cancers put together. However, if diagnosed at an early stage, the outcome is good.

Anne said: “For this reason it is important for women to familiarise themselves with the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer so that if necessary they can seek advice as early as possible.”

She is inviting everyone to join her at the tea party to learn more about the disease and help raise vital funds for research.

You can do this by buying raffle tickets while enjoying lovely tea and cakes.

This year the wide variety of stalls will include a tombola, bookstall, raffle, Lottie’s Glitzy Gifts, Forever Living, Colletsie’s Bath Crafts, Powerhoop Classes, V.J Knits, Neal’s Yard, Unique Faceprinting, Hansel & Petal, Remember Flossy and Usborne Books.
