Tea party in memory of mum who lost her battle with ovarian cancer

Anne Elliott-Flockhart is holding the event for the Eve Appeal which funds groundbreaking research into gynaecological cancers.

The party, which is being held on Saturday, March 11, from 10am to noon at Sandy Upper School, will help raise funds for ovarian cancer research and boost awareness of the disease.

Anne’s mum Claire Overy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 and she underwent several courses of chemotherapy over the years but finally lost her battle in 2007 aged just of 52. Before her mum developed the disease Anne says she had never heard of ovarian cancer.

She said: “It’s been ten years since I lost my mum but but I think about her every day.

“Ovarian cancer is the sixth most common cancer amongst women in the UK and very little has changed in terms of ovarian cancer survival rates, where so much progress has been made for other health conditions.”

Anne added: “More than 7,300 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year in the UK and 11 women die every day from the disease. The Eve Appeal is determined to change these shocking statistics. They believe that risk prediction and early detection will make the biggest impact in saving women’s lives.”
