Thousands enjoy country fete

More than 2,000 visitors enjoyed a country fete at a hospice on Sunday (August 19).

St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger was the venue for the event, which saw some 2,400 fete goers enjoying a day of fun in the sun.

The fete also raised £17,934 for the Sue Ryder Care hospice, which provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care.

It was sponsored by the Medivet Coutts Veterinary Surgery in Biggleswade and Npower Little Barford Power Station, and featured a variety of activities and attractions.

The annual event was officially opened by Holby City star Joseph Millson, who plays Luc Hemingway in the BBC soap.

Danielle Brandon, events fundraiser at the hospice said: “We had a sheepdog display, one from Crazy Critters, a tombola and much more.

“Another popular one was the Amazing Human Fruit Machine, a kind of Punch and Judy show where children pull the levers and press the buttons and adults behind the display hold up pieces of fruit. That was a lot of fun and was very popular too.”
