Topping out ceremony at new school site

Pupils from a lower school were on a high as a topping-out ceremony took place at their school’s new campus.

Work is currently taking place on St Andrew’s C of E Lower School’s new campus, which is being built at the King’s Reach development in Biggleswade. It will complement the existing site in Brunts Lane.

The work is part of Central Beds Council’s commitment to spend more than £100million providing 6,500 school places in the next five years.

Pupil William Story, chair of the school council, joined helped tighten the final bolt on the frame of the development, which will provide an additional 300 school places when it opens in September.

Pupils from the school’s council and choir and staff were joined by a dignitaries, including the venerable Paul Hughes, Archdeacon of Bedford, who blessed the building, council chairman Cllr Caroline Maudlin, director of children’s services Sue Harrison and High Sheriff of Bedfordshire Colin Osborne.

Headteacher Sue Rolfe said: “The ceremony was a delightful event and the children sang beautifully. They sang a song about always trying your best, which goes so well with our school motto – Aspire, Believe, Celebrate. It was also great to see the progress of the building. We are all looking forward to September.”
