Town orchard consultation

Plans for a community orchard will be under discussion at an apple day.

Potton Apple Day, which has become an annual fixture, will be held on Sunday, September 30.

And this year there will be an additional reason to visit – a consultation will be launched to ask everyone what their thoughts are on having a community orchard in the town. The intention is to plant it as part of the new development on Biggleswade Road.

Visitors can also bring along their own apples to chop and juice using the apple press. Bring along an empty bottle to take your juice home.

The East England Apple and Orchard Project will have a display of Bedfordshire apple varieties. They will identify apples that visitors bring along on the day. They hope to discover some of the 20 or so lost varieties.

The Bedford Pippin was rediscovered last year. It had been lost since the 1930s. You may have the last remaining example of Lord Beatty or Laxton’s Ring Pippin!

CAMRA will be selling a range of ciders made in the region.

Drop by St Mary’s Church Hall from noon to 4pm. Entry is free and there is parking on site.
