Town’s show is a chance to shine

Gardeners, bakers and flower arrangers can enter their produce at a community show.

Potton Show will be held on Saturday, September 8 in St Mary’s Hall and field.

Vegetable growers can enter such categories as six onions, three blanched leeks, a collection of herbs and nine French beans.

Fruit entries can include four dessert pears, 20 blackberries and a bunch of grapes.

Anyone who prefers to submit flowers can enter asters, roses, fuchsias and other blooms. There is also a flower arranging section.

Cooks can enter fruit scones, loafs of bread, cheese straws, an apple pie and jam tarts, to name but a few.

Additionally youngsters can enter some of the many children’s categories.

The show will open at 2pm. Entry is £1 for adults and 50p for children. There will also be exhibits, stalls, entertainment and refreshments. Prizes will be presented by Margaret Robinson at 4pm.

This will be followed by the raffle draw and auction of produce before the show closes at 5pm.

The show will be followed by a barn dance in the marquee at 8pm with music from Ivel Valley Band. Tickets cost £9 including a fish and chip supper.

There will be a craft fair in the marquee on Sunday, September 9 from noon to 5pm. The weekend will finish with a church service in the marquee at 6.30pm by St Mary’s Church, the Salvation Army and the Vineyard Church.
