Road closure on Biggleswade's Hitchin Street will change this weekend

Anglian Water has announced that the road closure on Biggleswade's Hitchin Street will change this weekend.

From Saturday, September 19, the company will shorten the current closure – and reopen the junction with Blunham Road.

Hitchin Street will remain closed from just beyond Blunham Road to the junction with Teal Road and Saffron Road.

Anglian Water stated: "Once Blunham Road reopens, the usual one-way system will return. Vehicles will need to enter via South View and leave via Blunham Road.

"Vehicle access to driveways within the closed section won’t be possible for a short time, so residents will need to park elsewhere.

"Pedestrian access will always be maintained."

If you have any special circumstances or need to discuss access, people are invited to speak to the site team.

The spokesman added: "Thank you for bearing with us while we carry out this important work."

The Anglian Water team is installing new water pipes along Hitchin Street as part of a £7.9 million investment to "reduce bursts" and keep water "flowing reliably for decades to come".

The programme also includes upgrades to the local water recycling centre, helping to improve the quality of water returned to the River Ivel.

Work began in June and was expected to be completed by the end of September.
