Triumphant karate students get their kicks at top tournament

Young karate students picked up a host of medals in a regional competition.

Youngsters from the Actikarate school run by Biggleswade instructor Frank Nezhadpournia impressed judges at the East Anglian Championships in Ipswich.

The team of students, who all live in Chronicle Country finished the tournament earlier this month with four bronze and two silver medals between them.

The successful youngsters included Joshua Grummit, Zach Rose and Daniel Powell, who all won bronze medals and silver medallists Tilly Kidd and Neve Palmer.

Kata specialist Oscar Barnes also came close, eventually being beaten by a gold medallist.

Frank said: “To go to a championship of this size and clean up with so many medals is really an indication as to the standard of karate in Chronicle Country.

“Now there is a lot of work to do to prepare them for the European Championships later this year and to tidy up the areas that they were weak in.”
