Turning back the clock at Biggleswade shop

A SHOP owner will be turning back time when she stocks a new – or should that be old – range of handbags, shoes and clothes.

Julia McBride, who runs Serendipity in Biggleswade High Street, will celebrate the launch of the new items during a two-day celebration today (Friday, June 3) and tomorrow.

Customers will be invited to bring in the vintage stock and proceeds will be split evenly between the store and the previous owner.

Julia, who has run the gift shop for three years, said: “The idea came about when I looked in my wardrobe and found items that still had the labels on that I had barely worn.

“There must be so many other people in the same situation, who have bought dresses that they have worn once or perhaps never put on, that they would like to sell.

“I looked up the definition of vintage and it means items of a high quality and lasting value which show the best characteristics of something from the past, so it could be clothes, shoes or handbags which could be just from last season.”

The two-day launch party – which will run during the shop’s opening hours – will see customers being offered champagne and classic, retro party food, including pineapple and cheese cocktail sticks.

Julia added: “The focus will be on high end high street and designer brands, which will ideally be relatively new but they can be from past seasons, as long as the items are in a good condition.”
