Waving her wand to turn on the lights
Gamlingay switched on their first ever Christmas lights on Monday thanks to the efforts of 11-year-old Rachel Mingay and Gamlingay Parish Council.
Rachel wrote to the parish council to ask if Gamlingay could have some lights and the parish council responded by putting some funding towards this, writing to all local businesses asking for donations and sourcing suitable lights that could attach to lamp posts on Church Street.
Rachel then took to her mixing bowl and started baking cakes to raise funds. She ended up raising over £400. In total nearly £4000 was raised.
Rachel waved her magic wand to switch the lights as the community watched.
