Wendi to attend UN event in New York

A Chronicle Country UN delegate could meet Hillary Clinton and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at an event in New York.

Wendi Momen of Northill flew to New York yesterday to attend the Commission on the Status of Women event, which starts on Monday.

The 63-year-old, who is originally from California, is attending the UN’s headquarters as part of the official UN Women UK delegation.

Wendi, who has lived in Northill for more than 30 years, practices the Baha’i faith and she will also be attending on behalf of the Ethical Business Building the Future (EBBF) group – formerly known as the European Baha’i Business Forum.

She said: “It should be quite an interesting event this year and it will include International Women’s Day where Ban Ki-moon and Hillary Clinton will be present.

“I don’t know whether I will get the chance to meet them but it would be an honour for me to do so.”

Wendi, who formerly worked in publishing is also looking forward to discussing youth employment and furthering career opportunities for youngsters.

She added: “I am especially interested in youth employment, and especially concerning opportunities for young women.

“We will be looking at ways of enabling young people to develop the concept and practice of social entrepreneurship in areas like Bedfordshire.”

Wendi will be chairing a practical workshop for young people, ‘Decent Work for Women and Girls’, which will explore how entrepreneurship can help with jobs and careers.

Delegates from all over the world will be in attendance at the event, which will focus on economic growth, future development and the participation of girls and women in all areas of life.
