When are fast internet speeds coming to you?

Central Beds Council is currently on target to deliver download speeds of 24Mbps (megabits per second) to nine out of 10 premises by that time.

All areas will also be guaranteed speeds of at least 2Mbps under the plans.

The council is confident it can deliver on its promises after working in partnership with BT Openreach, Bedford Borough Council and Milton Keynes Council.

A map produced by Central Beds Council reveals that superfast broadband is already available in much of Chronicle Country – or is at least on its way.

Parts of Biggleswade, Langford, Dunton, Sandy and Beeston are in the grey area of the map – denoting areas where superfast services are already available, or are ‘in suppliers’ commercial deployment plans.’

A large area further west, incorporating Shefford, Clifton, Henlow, Arlesey, Stanford, Meppershall, Campton, Lower Stondon and much of Stotfold also falls within this catchment.

The council admits though that ‘there are known gaps in this indicated coverage’ – Biggleswade’s new Kings Reach development being one example.

Everton and parts of Southill are in the Phase one area, meaning that superfast services are expected to be available between July and December this year.

Internet users in Potton, Sutton and parts of Biggleswade, Moggerhanger and Wrestlingworth will have to wait until the same period the following year to take advantage of superfast services.

For some areas, though the prospects are altogether bleaker.

Eyeworth and pockets of Biggleswade and Moggerhanger are in the phase eight zone, where there will only be provision of basic infrastructure to ensure speeds of at least 2Mbps in 2016, thought superfast services could be a possibility in 2017 or 2018.

The same applies to another scattered but significant zone, where it is reported that 2Mbps speeds are already available.

This includes a small 
areaof Biggleswade, Broom, Tempsford, Northill and Ickwell, Old Warden and parts of Southill.
