Young choir has hit a high note in contest

HARMONIOUS notes are sounding from the vocal chords of a highly successful school choir.

Gamlingay Village College’s choir is known throughout the area for its superb standard – and now there is yet more proof. The young singers, who are drawn from each year group, have won a place in the prestigious Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year Competition. Last year they came fourth.

The 40-strong choir is one of just six to be chosen to sing in the televised final round. 140 schools from across the British Isles entered the contest.

Music teacher, Yvonne Gray, said: “The children are very keen and we practise a lot. They are thrilled and very excited.”

The choir will be competing in the final at the BBC studio in Salford tomorrow (Saturday, February 11). It will be televised in April.
