Young scientists are flying high

Dads were the theme of a special week for pupils.

Southill Lower School invited fathers into school to talk about their jobs and to work with the children.

On Friday, June 14 Simon Sheridan, who is a scientist, taught the youngsters how to make rockets.

Head Fran Murray said: “He ran a whole day of activities based around space and science. He brought in various rocks; moon rock and rocks from different asteroids but most importantly there was a piece from Mars. All the children were allowed to hold that. In the afternoon we had a make a rocket workshop.”

One father talked about growing up in Africa and another set up a video conference, which the Reception children loved.

Mrs Murray hopes to repeat the fathers’ week next year.
